Modi, Delcy Rodriguez Hold High-Level Talks in New Delhi, India and Venezuela Eye Expanded Energy and Economic Partnership

The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening ties between India and Venezuela, as both countries sought to deepen collaboration in areas of mutual strategic and economic interest. During the discussions, the two leaders assessed ongoing cooperation and examined opportunities to further expand bilateral engagement.

Addressing the media after the talks, Secretary (East) Rudrendra Tandon highlighted Venezuela’s position as one of the countries with the largest oil reserves in the world. He said the discussions focused extensively on building a stronger energy partnership between the two nations at a time when Venezuela’s energy sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation.

Tandon noted that Venezuela views India as a stable and long-term source of demand for energy resources. He added that both sides explored possibilities for closer cooperation in the energy sector while also discussing measures to broaden economic engagement beyond energy.

According to Tandon, the talks covered a wide range of sectors, including mining, animal husbandry, transportation, agricultural equipment, the automotive industry and pharmaceuticals. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to expanding commercial and investment opportunities and creating new frameworks for economic cooperation.

The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership and advancing the interests and priorities of the Global South through enhanced cooperation and dialogue.

The meeting underscored the growing importance of India-Venezuela relations, with energy security, trade expansion and economic collaboration emerging as central pillars of a partnership that both nations are seeking to elevate in the years ahead.
